Brandon Joseph had a decision to make a year ago - head to the NFL Draft or return to college. He chose to stay in school, but change schools, moving from Northwestern to Notre Dame, something Joseph feels really better prepare him as he now is going pro.
“I was able to join a team with a lot of seniors, a lot of veterans and it’s very much like when I enter the NFL,” Joseph said. “I’m joining a team with a lot of high valued players and I’m going to have to figure out how to enter that culture and be dominant in it. I think I was able to do that at Notre Dame and it really prepared me for entering the NFL.”
Joseph first popped with the Wildcats during the shortened 2020 season, leading the country with six interceptions in just eight games, earning him consensus All-American honors. He followed that up the following year with 79 tackles and 3 picks.
His lone season with the Fighting Irish saw his production dip, though his one interception was returned for a touchdown.
Still, Joseph feels he’s shown enough on tape to fill multiple roles at the next level.
“I think I can be a very versatile player on defense,” he said. “Whether it’s rolling down, whether it’s playing deep, being a roll down nickel, possibly a dime in the box, back deep. I’m excited to see where a team thinks I fit. I think I can do a lot of things.”
Joseph has good size at 6 feet and just over 200 pounds, but his testing numbers at the NFL Combine were middle of the pack or lower. He’s looking like a later Day 2 to Day 3 selection.
