GREENSBORO, N.C. — A North Carolina woman is helping boost the self-esteem of job seekers.

Chiquita Beam is the founder of the "Beam Me Up" nonprofit organization in Greensboro and says five years ago, she went through a hard time.

"I lost my job," Beam said. "I lost my income. I had an interview finally, but I couldn't afford a wig.”

She says the experience fueled her passion to help others get back on their feet.

The foundation is geared toward helping people in need of wigs regain their confidence after experiencing hardships or medical issues.

Beam says her goal is to help build their self-esteem as they regain their lives.

"I really hope they get a boost of self-esteem and really get them back to real life," Beam said. "Sometimes you don't have the confidence or you don't feel good."

The Beam Me Up nonprofit has donated over a dozen wigs and is looking for more people to give wigs to continue to give to others. If you would like to donate, please click here for more information.
