Restaurants across Western New York are taking part in the first "Healthy Options Restaurant Week."

The event is a partnership between the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus, Independent Health and the Buffalo Urban League Young Professionals.

More than 20 restaurants from Lewiston to Blasdell are offering nutritious meal deals that include appetizers, entrees and desserts.

Organizers say the event helps showcase some of the healthier dishes the region has to offer.

"It’s really a way to bring food as medicine to people so a lot of the times in Buffalo, we’re home to the chicken wing, people don't really think they can eat out and get a healthy meal, but in this case you can," said Beth Machnica, director of Health and Well Being at the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus.

Healthy Restaurant Week runs through Saturday.
