He’s been a fixture among Bills fans for three decades. While the Bills are on center stage, Bills Elvis is in the building in the front row, cheering on the blue and red.

“You’re still around? I’ve seen you for 30 years. Yeah, it’s still me,” John Lang, aka Bills Elvis, said.

For Lang, the legend of Bills Elvis began as a joke back in 1992.

“I was bet that I couldn’t get on television so I picked up one of the guitars I had in my back room, painted it Go Bills and Squish the Fish on it,” he said. “Of course, I was on the broadcast that day, I was on ESPN that night. I think even the Buffalo News had me in. As I was leaving, my whole section was like, ‘Elvis you’ve to do it again. You’ve got to do it again.’”

He did do it again, and just about every home game since then. He’s only missed four in 30 years.

“It’s funny because in ’92 I was the young guy at the tailgate. Now I’m kind of the older guy,” he said.

As an elder statesman among Bills Mafia, the team surprised him with a special honor, presented by fan-favorite Dion Dawkins.

“And this is the fan of the year jersey that I’m giving to you because you just won the fan of the year. Yes. All hail Elvis. All hail Elvis!

Lang was selected as the Bills Fan of the Year for 2022, and with that comes a trip to the Super Bowl in February.

“I’m looking around and I go, ‘what is this a prank or something?’ I’m thinking to myself. Then I look over there and there’s this huge Super Bowl ticket and I was just like ‘Holy mackerel!’ I’m just blown away,” he said.

The Bills were blown away by Lang’s charity work in the past year, including a fundraiser for the family of Aaron Salter, one of the victims of the 5/14 massacre at Tops in Buffalo.

“I just feel beyond blessed that I’m able to help and do some really cool stuff like that,” Lang said.

Over the years, he’s gone through about eight different locally-made Elvis suits, and many a guitar, often customized for the Bills' opponents. And you can bet Elvis will be in the building if the Bills ever win the big game.

“Yeah, I’d want to be in that parade, that’s for sure,” he said.
