BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Buffalo Common Council is taking steps to address what advocates call a ‘housing crisis’ in the city.

Common Council members are looking to form a task force aimed at addressing concerns from both landlords and tenants.

Council members say they want the task force to include representatives from housing rights groups, businesses and a tenant affected by housing practices.

"It's the people I'm most concerned about,” Darius Pridgen, Common Council president, said. “It's not the business community. The people I'm most concerned about are those that find themselves without a roof over their head from landlords who raise the rents, and the tenants, many of them don't feel protected and some of them don't know the law."

Pridgen says he will file the proposal before the next council meeting.

He also wants input from local advocacy groups, including PUSH Buffalo and the PPG and wants the group to hear directly from someone affected by the aggressive tactics of some landlords.
