BUFFALO, N.Y. — The New York State Department of Transportation has completed its final scoping report for the Kensington Expressway Project.
The report reviewed several different options on how to go about this project, and in turn determined the construction of a six-lane tunnel with improved community connections at street level from Dodge Street to Sidney Street will best meet the project's goals and should be further studied.
In doing that, 600 feet of roadway would be added to the 33.
The report touched on the reconstruction of Humboldt Parkway by implementing "Complete Street" roadway design features as well.
"We believe with all of our hearts that literally the best is yet to come for Buffalo,” said Marie Therese Dominguez, NYSDOT commissioner. “And this expressway, the 33, that has divided neighborhoods for long enough is now at a point where we can fundamentally reconnect the community."
The DOT will now share their findings with residents.
They will submit a draft of an environmental assessment next summer.
