BUFFALO, N.Y. — More affordable housing is opening up in East Buffalo.

State and local officials on Monday celebrated the completion of Mt. Aaron Village on Genesee Street.

The $20 million project includes 59 apartments — 18 of which are for people who need supportive services to live independently.

"Congratulations to this entire community, because you have only just begun to see the work that this community development corporation, under this leadership, and all of these teams in here benefits from," said Darius Pridgen, Buffalo Common Council president.

"People struggle in a lot of ways and we never know what their struggles are, but one thing is for sure, is they need to have access to good quality affordable housing,” said Crystal Peoples-Stokes, New York State Assembly majority leader.

The funding for the housing development comes from the governor's $25 billion comprehensive housing plan.
