BUFFALO, N.Y. — The prominent pediatrician who, along with his two daughters, died when their house caught fire Monday, is being remembered for his diversity efforts at the University of Buffalo.

Dr. Jonathan Daniels was the associate director of admissions for the Jacobs School of Medicine.

Faculty, staff and students say his legacy encompasses both a warm personality and an ability to help people see that change in medicine is possible to reflect our community.

"Over the last five years during his time here, he helped us implement holistic admissions process and the diversity in our school went up significantly such as 23% underrepresentative medicine in our entering class last year..." Allison Brashear, Dean of the Jacobs School of Medicine UB, said.

Dean Brashear said UB has become more diverse since Dr. Daniels graduated.

Her goal is to change the face of medicine, improve the care and assure their students see every opportunity to stay in Western New York.
