Versatility defined DeMarvin Leal's career at Texas A&M. He played in 35 games with 28 starts, seeing time both at defensive end as well as defensive tackle.

His body stacked up for both, standing 6'4" and 280 pounds, while showing good athleticism, including posting a 5.0 second 40-yard dash time at the NFL Combine.

"Basically at every position there's a different way you can get back there," Leal said in Indianapolis last month. "Sometimes you might have a stunt. Sometimes you might just be free. Just being able to learn and have that knowledge of what you can and cannot do within the defense to be successful."

Leal posted modest numbers his first two years with the Aggies (4.5 sacks an 12.5 tackles for a loss as a freshman and sophomore), but popped off as a junior with 8.5 sacks and 12.5 TFL, earning 1st team All-American honors as well as being named a finalist for the Ted Hendricks Award for the nation's top DE.

He credits the jump in production to what he did off the field.

"Definitely watching film," Leal said. "That was the biggest key. The eye in the sky don't lie, so it was just watching games from last year, games from the season, and just getting after it on the field."

There are some questions as to where Leal best fits at the next level. While his best success was found on the outside in college, he doesn't appear to have the necessary burst off the edge to produce in the NFL. On the flip side, he could likely use adding a little weight to play full-time on the interior.

Either way, Leal embraces all the responsibilities of playing upfront.

"You have to stop the run to create pass rush opportunities," Leal said. "When you stop the run, you make them have to change what they're doing and go to another option, which is how we make money. That's how we do it. As a defensive end and defensive tackle we love when it's a pass because that means it's time to go."

Leal is likely a late first to second round selection.
