Anyone planning to take a boat out on the lake today better leave the alcohol on shore.

Buffalo police say they're teaming up with the U.S. Coast Guard this Independence Day, watching for people boating under the influence.

It's part of a national effort called "Operation Dry Water," involving thousands of law enforcement officers patrolling lakes, beaches and waterways around the country.

The Buffalo Police Underwater Recovery team says alcohol use is the leading factor in recreatingal boating deaths, contributing to nearly one out of every four fatal accidents on the water every year.
