Anyone looking for something to do on this holiday can check out five new scultpures at the Lockport locks.

Federal, state and local officials gathered to unveil the newest installations to the Lock Tenders Tribute Monument Saturday.

Those scultptures join the three figures already installed in July 2020 on the stairway of the locks. The family descendants of those featured in the monument were present at the dedication ceremony.

Creator and Youngstown artist Susan Geissler says she was inspired by a photograph taken in 1897 of the original workers at the Erie Canal.

When completed, there will be a total of 14 life-size, cast brown sculptures on the very stairs where the original photo was taken. Geissler said that the last six statues should be done by next year.
