HAMBURG, N.Y. — A local non-profit is helping people with intellectual and developmental disabilities smoothly transition to life on their own.

People, Inc.’s “On Our Way at Wayside” project is providing transitional housing to those in need.

Officials gathered for a housewarming celebration at a brand new building, located at the corner of Wayside Drive and Roberts Road in Hamburg.

There, three residents will live in separate pods for about three to nine months. They will have the chance to learn cooking, cleaning, laundry and budgeting, in a group setting.

Officials say this space represents a safe practice model for independent living.
