A major project is underway in the Ken-Ton school district.

$75 million will go into updating buildings, including new water pipes and a state-of-the-art artificial turf field at Kenmore East High School.

The district is also expanding its universal pre-kindergarten program.

Starting in September, the district — with help from the YMCA — will offer a full-day option.

UPK students will be based at the former Hamilton Elementary School, which closed in 2016 because of declining enrollment.

The district says enrollment is projected to grow by an average of 1.2% each year through 2030.

Families already registered in the UPK program are guaranteed a half-day spot.

Families can request a transfer to full-day and are asked to submit that change by next Friday, June 18.
