HAMBURG, N.Y. — A local military veteran and Hamburg teacher receive a comforting gift Friday.
A Quilt of Valor was presented to retired Major Sheri Bauer. She was recognized for 20 years of service in the US Army Reserve. She also teaches at Hamburg High School.
Students in the Workforce Development Class handmade a quilt for her, which symbolizes comfort and healing.
"Thank you, I just want to thank you, and I'm grateful to be part of your ceremony, 20 years that's what brought me to teaching and I did 5 years here with my last five with the Army, but once a soldier always a soldier," Bauer said.
The Quilts of Valor Foundation has given out more than 270,000 quilts to service members and veterans nationwide since 2003.
