BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Buffalo Association of Black Journalists is sharing how its meeting went with radio station 97 Rock and parent company Cumulus Media following racial comments made on the air.
The association calls the meeting with company leadership "genuine and productive."
Last week, host Rob Lederman compared burnt toast to the color of Black women’s skin on the Morning Bull Show with co-hosts Rich Gaenzler and Chris Klein.
Lederman was fired, while the other two were suspended.
The association says 97 Rock quickly started diversity training and has issued an apology that has aired several times since last week.
Spectrum News is told Cumulus Media also scheduled meetings with groups and organizations to try to reconcile with Western New York's Black community.
Some of the station's next steps include more interaction with Buffalo's communities of color, increasing diversity at the station, and listening sessions with the community.
