Disgraced former Congressman Chris Collins has been released from prison after serving a little more than two months of his 26-month sentence for insider trading.

Collins was pardoned by President Donald Trump.

He was released from a federal prison in Florida overnight.

A notice from the White House says President Trump pardoned Collins at the request of "many" members of Congress.

Collins represented New York's 27th Congressional District from 2013 to 2019 and was the first sitting member of Congress to back Trump's first presidential campaign.

Last year, Collins pleaded guilty to insider trading and lying to the FBI.

Collins began his 26-month sentence in Florida in October.

He was supposed to report to prison in March, but his legal team successfully argued to delay that several times because of the pandemic and Collins' health risks.

President Trump pardoned 15 people and commuted the sentences of five others on Tuesday.
