The Buffalo Police Department could possibly start leasing vehicles in the future to help keep enough vehicles in working condition.

The city's Department of Administration and Finance says leasing would allow the city to acquire more vehicles at a time and allows for more high-mileage vehicles to be cycled out.

This year's budget has around $650,000 set aside to help re-build the fleet.

If the city leases this year, it would cover the first-year cost of 31 vehicles.

If the city bought the vehicles instead, it would only be able to get 13.

The city says this, along with the buyout costs of each vehicle, were presented to the common council, which will decide on the next steps.
