The United States Attorney for Western New York will discuss the trusted travel program ban for New Yorkers Monday morning.

The Department of Homeland Security announced last week it will no longer accept applications from New York residents for border crossing programs like Nexus, Global Entry, and SENTRI.

It's a response to New York's Green Light Law, which allows undocumented immigrants to apply for drivers licenses.

Local leaders like Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz are worried about the ban.

Poloncarz said the prohibition will negatively affect business, tourism and personal travel and he’s concerned it will hurt the state and local economy.

Governor Andrew Cuomo and state Attorney General Letitia James on Friday said they’ll be suing the federal government about the change.

Democratic congressional candidate Nate McMurray, on WBEN Sunday, also voiced his concerns.

“It's gonna hurt travel, it's gonna hurt business, it's going to hurt the airport, it's going to hurt our malls, it's wrong,” he said. “President Trump needs to stop punishing New York State."
