Eastern Niagara Hospital says it's doing what it can to improve the conditions of the facility for those who rely on its services.

During a community forum in Lockport Tuesday, the hospital discussed the changes it's made in the last six months.

The hospital filed for bankruptcy in November after it was unable to pay nearly $14.5 million dollars in debt.

It also closed its Newfane location, which offered fewer services.

Management said it's now trying to re-structure and reorganize the hospital in Lockport so it can be fully sustainable for the community for years to come.

"We have a really incredibly resilient community, and it's a privilege to run the hospital and make sure we're doing the best we can for this community," said Anne McCaffrey, the hospital’s president and CEO.

She said they hope to break ground on their new emergency department this spring after they get final approval from the state.
