A 2019 Bishop Timon High School graduate is dead following a crash involving a tractor-trailer in Sardinia, New York.
New York State Police said Cameron Velasquez, 18, was killed in a crash around 5:30 p.m. Friday. It happened on Route 16 near the intersection of Olean and Dutch-Town Roads.
Troopers said Velasquez’s vehicle crossed into the oncoming lane and hit the tractor trailer head-on. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Bishop Timon shared on Twitter that Velasquez was returning home from Alfred State. He graduated from the catholic school the previous spring, where he was a member of the hockey and soccer teams.
The school will hold a prayer service for Velasquez on Monday at 8 a.m. in the school gym. Friends and classmates are encouraged to attend.
The Bishop Timon community is still mourning after a student died earlier this summer after being shot on Briscoe Avenue in Buffalo. Paul Humphrey, 17, passed away in July. He was a member of the Timon Tigers Football team, which honored his memory this season with the 2-gether campaign. All of the players have helmet decals with Humphrey's jersey #2 and a different player wears his jersey every game.
Police are still looking for Humphrey's killer. Buffalo Crime Stoppers is offering a $7,500 reward for information leading to an arrest. If you have any information, call or text the tipline at (716) 867-6161.
