Niagara Falls residents are once again concerned about the renewed possibility of raising user fees for garbage pick-ups.

The Niagara Falls City Council passed a measure Wednesday to hold a public hearing before making a final decision.

Council members believe raising the cost to nearly $250 a year would help bring more cash into the city’s coffers.

But some taxpayers said they don’t know where the money would go.

People have already been leaving their garbage at donation centers to avoid paying the current fee and some businesses are now locking their dumpsters.

This is the second time in a year the city has floated the idea of raising garbage fees. A similar proposal was voted down in the 2019 budget.
