A new hub for economic empowerment has opened on Buffalo's west side.

HEAL International has been serving immigrants and new Americans in Buffalo for a decade. Up until now, they've done so without a centralized location. The group moved into a two-story building located on Ferry Street where they can continue to offer the population tools they can use to thrive in America.

"Some of the people get left behind as they go through resettlement and so we're trying to fill in that void," said HEAL International Executive Director, Douglas Klotzbach. "The youth programs are not really large on the west side. So we're really focused on younger and older youth and trying to get them in the system whether it's educational or vocational."

The organization is now looking to staff the building with social workers and youth advisers. To remain a self-sustaining building and to keep costs low, HEAL will also rent out some of its office spaces to other organizations with similar goals.
