Investigators are renewing their interest in the death an infant after her father was accused of killing his ex-girlfriend and is now being investigated for the death of his mother.

The Buffalo Police Department and Erie County District Attorney's Office say their investigations into Royalty Ava Lee-Jones' death remain open.

Her father, Charles Jones, 24, was charged with murder in the death of her mother, Jacquette Lee, 25.

Investigators said the 10-month-old girl had no visible injuries but suffered severe brain damage when she was rushed to the hospital in May 2017.

She died from her injuries the following February.

Investigators believe Jones was the last person with her before she was taken to the hospital.

"It's still under investigation in terms of the totality of it,” said Buffalo Police Captain Jeff Rinaldo. “Baby death cases are difficult investigations, you need a lot of medical evidence, sometimes it's no clearly obvious what happened, so they're intensive investigations, and they do take some time."

Jones was arrested earlier this month following a standoff on Jefferson Avenue in Buffalo.

After he surrendered police found the body of his mother, Alethia Williams.

Police said Williams had multiple cuts from a sharp object.

So far, he has not been charged in connection with his mother's death.
