Buffalo Police have identified a suspect in the early Thursday morning stabbing death of 57-year-old Alina Vega-Lantoron. Police  confirmed to Spectrum News on Saturday they had arrested 53-year-old Jose Eiras Oviedo.

Police say Oviedo is under police guard at the Erie County Medical Center. He has been charged with murder in the second degree for the "homicide" of Vega-Lantoron.

Oviedo and Vega-Lantoron shared a residence on 15th street, where police say Vega-Lantoron was found dead in the bathroom. Officers were sent to the home 12:30 a.m. and then Oviedo was rushed to the ECMC.

We previously reported the call came in with reports of two people, a male and woman, both stabbed with serious injuries. Police confirmed the male was transported for treatment and listed in fair condition. They described the incident as "domestic in nature."

Neighbors who were out in the early morning said it was usually a safe neighborhood.

“It’s very surprising. I usually wake up early in the morning in the summer and just sometimes walk and it’s very safe,” said neighbor Atif Salih.

The incident remains under investigation.
