“Yes, the kool-aid,” said Jamey Alexander of Buffalo Soul Catering. “That is the finishing touch to a home-cooked meal.”
- Buffalo Soul Catering opened last May
- The family owned and operated business can be found on Rookie's Row at the Taste of Buffalo
- On the menu: chicken wing dip, steak hoagies, Greek chicken and banana pudding
New to the Queen City, Buffalo Soul Catering is hoping to make its mark at this year’s Taste of Buffalo.
“We pretty just want to have all the kinds of food that makes people feel like this is the place to go to whether they are leaving town, have friends come in from out of town, or just on a Saturday night,” Alexander said.
Jamey and Brandy Alexander are sure to leave patrons’ mouths watering thanks to their secret hoagie sauce and chicken wing dip. The key ingredients: Frank's Hot Sauce and homemade blue cheese.
“You would be surprised how many people ask us to use ranch,” Alexander said.
It's an alarming request considering this is Buffalo.
“We convince them to try it and they never ask again,” they laughed.
Needless to say, the modified recipe will not be available to sample at the Taste this weekend.
There is a twist to Alexanders’ dip, however. Instead of tortilla chips or crackers, they serve it with Doritos.
“It just balances it all out,” he said.
Much like their brick-and-mortar restaurant, filled with homemade items like cookies and cakes, the Alexanders are exactly as they appear. And they will be the ones doing all the preparation work gearing up for their first appearance at the Taste.
“We will be dedicating about 16 hours each day to one dish to make sure we are fully prepared for everyone,” Alexander said.
They were told to be ready to fill about 20,000 stomachs.
“We are preparing for about 50 of these pans for Saturday and about another 50 pans for Sunday,” Alexander said.
And the hoagies?
“I’m predicting thousands,” he said.
It's safe to say the Alexanders are bringing a whole new meaning to “made with love.” They’re ready for Buffalo to come hungry and they’re eager to serve.
Buffalo Soul Catering will be located on Rookie's Row, on Delaware Avenue. Their menu also will include Greek chicken, their healthy option, and banana pudding for dessert.
