More than 100 people have received compensation for allegations of child sexual abuse in the Catholic Diocese of Buffalo.
The Independent Reconciliation and Compensation Program released a report saying that it has received more than 250 claims of priest abuse in the first year alone.
Of that total, 127 cases were substantiated.
Those survivors were issued monetary compensations ranging between $2,000 and $650,000.
All but 20 people accepted the compensation.
The diocese has paid out a total of $17.5 million thus far.
It also claims to have trained, since 2003, more than 41,000 adults who come into contact with children how to identify signs of sexual abuse and how to report those incidents.
