After a long, cold winter, it's finally time to enjoy the outdoors, and all Buffalo has to offer. That includes Canalside.
More than 30 fitness classes are being offered by BlueCross BlueShield seven days a week.
"From children to seniors, as well as adults or children with special needs, there really is a class for everyone, and they're completely free, so in a week's span you can try any type of class that you want, you can mix it up, or you can come back and enjoy your favorites all summer long," said Amber Hartmann, a spokesperson for BlueCross BlueShield.
Enjoy Canalside can also be enjoyed by bicycle with Blue Bikes that can be rented for $5 dollars an hour, or free for bike share members.
New this season is Creators on the Canal, bringing locally made goods to the waterfront.
"It's going to be an artisan market with some free fitness, some local vendors,” said Erin Marra, Canalside’s general manager. “It will be held on select Sundays throughout the summer. We will kick off the season this weekend having one on Monday, Memorial Day, down at the replica canals.”
When you work up an appetite, there are plenty of places for dinner with a view.
"We've got Clinton's Dish opening with our regular concessions, ice cream on the boardwalk, and then of course our Clinton's Dish Beer Garden with some local craft beer presented by Pearl Street," Marra said.
There's even more to look forward to this summer with new development along the water.
"We have so many areas that are under development here at Canalside,” she said. “It's all part of the larger plan that the ECHDC has for us to really develop these areas and make it more of a neighborhood. Explore & More Children's Museum opens up this weekend; that's a huge addition to us.”
The children's museum is now open on weekends and will be open this Friday. They expect to open full-time in the near future.
