- Details on what caused him to collapse have not been released
Sebastian Serafin-Bazan, 18, was taken to a hospital last Friday. Neighbors said they saw a body lying in a yard on Custer Street near a fraternity house. The incident is believed to be linked to hazing activity with the Sigma Pi fraternity.
UB has since suspended all Greek life activities at the school until at least the fall semester and has ordered a committee to investigate all fraternity and sorority activities at the university.
“Our hearts go out to Sebastian’s family for the devastating heartbreak they are experiencing,” said UB President Satish Tripathi in a statement released Wednesday afternoon. “We extend our sincerest condolences to the Serafin-Bazan family and to all of Sebastian’s friends here at UB and in his hometown of Port Chester, NY. We join them in mourning the tragic loss of a member of our UB family.”
Jonathan Frost, executive director of Sigma Pi, said in a statement that the organization remains in communication with both the Buffalo Police Department and UB and "have offered our support for their ongoing investigation. We will be initiating an internal investigation and review once the police have concluded their fact-finding."
