Bishop Richard Malone didn't preside over the city's St. Patrick's Day Parade this year to avoid distracting from the holiday. However, some activists angered by the clergy sex abuse scandal say that's not good enough.

For the second straight year, people protested outside St. Joseph's Cathedral where Malone held his annual St. Patrick's Day Sunday Mass.

The protesters are continuing calls for Malone to resign from the Catholic Diocese of Buffalo. In the past, Malone's admitted he mishandled investigations, though he's committed to leading the church and helping abuse survivors.

"Oh, they're claiming that they have programs in process now to help victims, etc... but the people who did this for decades, many decades, still have not been held accountable," said Road To Recovery Co-founder, Robert Hoatson. "When there's no accountability, there cannot be justice and victims become re-traumatized, re-victimized."

Spectrum News reached out the diocese for comment but did not immediately hear back.
