Local activists are fighting to stop Bishop Richard Malone from leading Buffalo's annual St. Patrick's Day parade.
The United Irish American Association asked Malone to carry out the honor, despite the clergy abuse scandal rocking Buffalo's Catholic Diocese.
An online petition has been started against the move.
Around 50 people have signed so far.
Spectrum News also spoke to Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown, who says the decision is ultimately up to the parade committee.
Malone is planning to celebrate mass at St. Joseph's Cathedral at 10:30 a.m. before the parade starts at 2 p.m.
The diocese did not provide a statement, but said the petition was filled with false information.
