The victim of a deadly chimney fire in East Amherst on Saturday has been identified.

Firefighters responded to the home on Bramblewood Lane around 1:15 a.m. to the sight of flames shooting out the home. Extra crews had to be called in to help knock down the blaze. 

Crews found 48-year-old Jeffrey Martens dead inside.

Cherylle Martens, 74, was rushed to the hospital to be treated for burns. Police say there is no update on her condition.

The entire house was destroyed.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, though police do not believe it to be suspicious.
