BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Bills are 7-2 for the first time since 1993 after taking down the Seahawks on Sunday. Josh Allen delivered one of his best performances with a career-high 415 yards passing, three touchdowns tosses, and another rushing score.

It was a gutsy effort, especially considering Allen learned the night before the game his grandmother had passed away. Head Coach Sean McDermott shared the news after Sunday's victory.

What You Need To Know

  • Bills quarterback Josh Allen's grandmother passed away on Saturday
  • Allen led the Bills on Sunday to a win over Seattle with a career day passing the ball
  • Bills fans have donated more than $200,000 to Oishei Children's Hospital in Buffalo to honor Allen's grandmother

UPDATE - The donation total keeps growing as Buffalo Bills fans have now donated more than $335,000 to Oishei Children's Hospital.

"Listen, Josh was emotional," McDermott said. "It was a big win and a great thing for him to play like he played. Just a mentally tough young man."

Longtime Bills fan Justin Hutton, who lives in the Albany area, heard about the death of Allen's grandmother. He decided to make a social media call on Reddit for donations in her honor to Oishei Children's Hospital in Buffalo — a charity Josh Allen has strongly supported since joining the Bills.

Hutton recalled when fans donated in droves to Andy Dalton's foundation when the former Bengals quarterback threw a late touchdown against the Ravens, helping the Bills clinch the playoffs in 2017.

"I made a post on the Buffalo Bills sub-Reddit. ‘Hey, let's donate $17 to Oishei Children's Hosptial because he's No. 17’ and it just absolutely blew up," he said.

Word spread on other social media platforms, and now thousands of donations have poured in totaling more than $100,000 — in $17 increments of course.

An example of Bills Mafia at its best.

"It's funny. We're almost always looking for an opportunity to do these sorts of things and I think it's just one of the best parts about Bills Mafia in general and the fan base in general," Hutton said.

The donors are coming from all over the country, even from other teams' fans. The money will go to support the hospital's teams and technology to help children who need it most.

"Kids who are sick. Kids who need treatment, kids who are having their lives saved every day by care providers," said Andrew Bennett, Chidren's Hosptial of Buffalo Foundation vice president.

"There were fans in the sub-Reddit saying Oishei Children's Hospital saved my child's life last year. I'm absolutely happy to donate to this cause," Hutton said.

And Allen himself has taken notice of the generosity. In a written statement he said: "I can't tell you how special it is to see the outpouring of support for me and my family during this tough time. The donations made to OCH in honor of my grandmother would make her so proud. Thank you Bills Mafia! It is an honor to be your quarterback."

"Just doing what the fan base does, Bills Mafia, we like to turn negative things into good things, positive things into even better things," Hutton said.

Mission accomplished, once again.
