1. Falling mortgage rates, more inventory shift housing market to buyers, Zillow says

The home-buying season is extending into the fall, as mortgage rates fall and sellers cut prices, according to a new analysis from the real estate website Zillow. 

2. New affordable housing for families and seniors in East Buffalo

Noles Court has 105 apartments for residents 55 and older, with 49 units reserved for those in need of supportive services to live independently. Catholic Charities of Buffalo will provide on-site services that promote emotional, mental and physical health. The adjacent 1100 Michigan is home to 132 apartments with a ground floor community facility space.

3. U.S. filings for unemployment benefits inch up slightly but remain historically low

Slightly more Americans filed for unemployment benefits last week, but layoffs remain at historically low levels despite two years of elevated interest rates.

4. New York's highest court rejects Trump gag order appeal

The New York Court of Appeals dismissed Trump's request to intervene in the order preventing him from making public statements about jurors, court staff and family members of officials in the case, writing in a brief order that "no substantial constitutional question is directly involved."

5. Harvey Weinstein indicted on additional sex crimes charges ahead of New York retrial

Disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein has been indicted on additional sex crimes charges ahead of his retrial in New York, Manhattan prosecutors said at a hearing Thursday.

6. Norfolk Southern sets salary and bonus for newly promoted CEO after firing Alan Shaw

Norfolk Southern said Thursday that its new CEO's salary will jump to $1 million now that Mark George has been promoted from chief financial officer, and he will be eligible for a $2.25 million bonus and significant stock awards for performance.
