The University at Buffalo is ranked among the nation's top school for hosting international students.

UB is ranked number 27 on the Institute of International Education's annual open doors report.  It's the 18th year in a row the university has made the top 30 on this list.

The university had more than 6,700 international students enrolled in fall of 2019. That's about 20% of the entire student population.

“Looking ahead, we expect UB to continue to be a leader, as our core strengths remain the same,” said John J. Wood, UB interim vice provost for international education. “UB has an excellent reputation overseas, and is highly regarded for strong academics, exceptional research and experiential learning opportunities, and a welcoming, supportive campus community.”

The students come from 102 different countries. UB officials say these are pre-pandemic numbers.

COVID-19 has impacted the international student enrollment numbers, but they expect that to be temporary.
