A pain doctor who wrote hundreds of thousands of illegal prescriptions that led to the deaths of six patients learned his fate Thursday.

Dr. Eugene Gosy was sentenced to 70 months in prison.

He pleaded guilty to health care fraud and conspiracy of unlawfully distributing controlled substances in January.

He previously faced an 80-count indictment for allegedly prescribing addictive painkillers like fentanyl, hydrocodone, and morphine.

Gosy admitted to prescribing painkillers to his own employees and his patients without properly evaluating them and knowingly gave medicine to patients who were misusing the drugs.

This all happened between June 2006 and April 2016.
