A special election will take place this summer in which voters will decide whether or not the Amherst Central Park Project will be completed as originally planned.
Last week, a group of Amherst residents turned in a petition with more than 4,000 signatures objecting to the $11 million bond resolution, which would help build a theater in the space on North Forest and Maple roads, the site of the old Westwood Country Club.
The potential theater tenants would contribute $2.5 million toward the project and the town would pitch in more than $8 million.
The Erie County Board of Elections confirmed the petition had enough valid signatures to force a town-wide vote.
