So much has been made of the lack of size from the top tier talent in this wide receiver draft class.
Boston College’s Zay Flowers certainly knows he wouldn’t get taller than 5’9,” but put in the work during the pre-draft process to add weight, up 10 pounds to 182 at his NFL Combine weigh-in.
“I feel good,” Flowers said at the Combine in late February. “I feel great. I feel the same. Explosive. Fast. Just put on a little bit of pounds. I needed it, so got it.”
Even lighter, Flowers was very productive for the Golden Eagles. He caught 200 receptions for 3,056 yards and 29 touchdowns over four years at BC.
He capped off that career with 3rd team All-American honors, with 78 catches for 1,077 yards and 12 TDs, the 5th most TDs grabs in college football.
Flowers ran a 4.42 second 40 yard dash at the Combine and is viewed as a slot WR.
He does believe, though, that he has the physicality needed to succeed at the next level, regardless of his stature.
“I think I’m pretty physical for a receiver,” Flowers explained at the Combine. “You watch my film, my coach was pretty hard on blocking. If you wanted the ball, you had to block. So I think I’m a pretty good blocker.”
Flowers is expected to be selected in the 1st round.
