Former Broome County District Attorney Stephen Cornwell pleaded guilty in Broome County Supreme Court Monday to a charge stemming from his time in office.

The Broome County DA's Office said Monday that Cornwell pleaded guilty to one count of grand larceny in the fourth degree.

The former official admitted to stealing property in March 2019 consisting of Broome County felony case records, the DA's office said.

Cornwell was sentenced to a three-year conditional discharge and a fine of $5,000. He was initially charged in two indictments by a grand jury but a judge dismissed one.

Cornwell's former assistant, James Worhach, also pleaded guilty Monday to one count of criminal possession of stolen property, according to the DA's office. He was sentenced to a one-year conditional discharge. He still faces several felony counts in a second indictment filed by a grand jury.

Cornwell was Broome County DA from 2016 to 2019. He also briefly ran for Congress in 2020 and ran unsuccessfully for Broome County Family Court judge the same year.
