With plenty of absentee ballots left to be counted, Anna Kelles emerged as the favorite in the race for the Democratic nomination in New York's 125th state Assembly district.

Kelles currently has 33 percent of the vote following Tuesday's early and in-person vote count. Seph Murtagh received 20 percent of the vote, Sujata Gibson got 15 percent and Jordan Lesser got 14 percent. Jason Leifer, Beau A.C. Harbin, and Lisa W. Hoeschele all received less than 10 percent.

Kelles had recieved endorsements from former gubernatorial candidates Zephyr Teachout and Cynthia Nixon.

"I'm excited to see where that goes along with everybody else and its been an honor to run in this race a true honor," Kelles said. "There's been seven people and that's what democracy should look like."

The 125th Assembly District includes Tompkins and Cortland counties.
