Steuben County is working to tackle opioid use and overdoses with a new online tool.

Steuben County Public Health and the county's Opioid Committee announced on Tuesday the Narcan Location GIS (Geographic Information System) Map. Officials say the online tool will help residents locate wall box units of naloxone, commonly known as Narcan. The Narcan will be available for free and without a prescription.

“Being able to quickly locate lifesaving Narcan during an opioid overdose emergency can save lives," Connie Terry, program assistant with the Steuben Prevention Coalition Opioid Committee, said in a statement. "I’m thankful our community partners have agreed to place emergency wall units throughout Steuben County."

The county is also offering Narcan training online. To schedule in-person training, call Steuben Public Health at 607-664-2438 or reach out to the Steuben Prevention Coalition’s Opioid Committee.

Other available resources include the Steuben County Substance Abuse Services (SCASAS), which offers outpatient services in Bath (607-664-2156), Corning (607-937-6201) and Hornell (607-324-2483) and after-hours services (607-937-7800).
