Today the Binghamton Pond Festival begins at Chenango Valley State Park. The event features snowshoeing, fireworks and hockey.

The hockey will be an adult 3-on-3 tournament this weekend that will be played on the largest outdoor refrigerated ice sheet in North America.

Organizers of the festival say that this huge ice sheet makes it possible to play no matter the weather.

"We are making ice now as it rains and whatever the weather if it gets warmer or rains some more, we'll still be able to play. So all of our scheduled games for every weekend will continue as planned," said Ron Crawford, a member of the Pond Festival planning team.

The Pond Festival will run every weekend until Feb. 5.
