Veterans receiving care from the Bainbridge VA clinic have been concerned they may lose the proximity to that clinic.

However, for now it seems that care isn't going anywhere. Congressman Anthony Brindisi announced new language in a government funding bill to protect the clinic in Bainbridge.

The language requires the VA to conduct a market area assessment before taking action on what to do with the clinic.

Veterans who use the clinic hope it stays where it is located.

"Oneonta is obviously a bigger area; it's harder to get in, harder to get out. Bainbridge is a small town but you have major roads, the interstate and 206 coming into it. So it's easy in, easy out, most people don't mind the drive there because you don't have to fight traffic or anything like that," said Army Veteran Jim Omahen.

The VA representatives in Albany said if the clinic did move, the Bainbridge office would stay open until a new site is established.
