Organizations committed to making sure people in the Southern Tier get the food they need are preparing for the holiday season. One of the biggest food drives of the year is just two weeks away for the Community Hunger Outreach Warehouse, or CHOW.

It's called the Food-A-Bago food drive. The outreach effort brings in thousands of pounds of food and also raises money for CHOW to purchase food.

"You get to really see just how kind the community is and how people really do have each other's backs," said CHOW Executive Director Jack Seman.

In addition to the food drive, one business owner started a "shopping cart challenge" four years ago, calling on other businesses to donate non-perishable foods for the cause.

"This community is always good about helping out their neighbor. Whenever something happens everybody is there to help. And as a business owner in this town, if it wasn't for the people I wouldn't be here. So we try to do as much as we can," said Andy Kipp, the owner of The Old Union Hotel.

The food drive begins on November 4. If you'd like to donate non-perishable items, stop by the Weis parking lot on Upper Front Street in Binghamton.
