Before the first bell rings, new hires for the Binghamton City School District are touring school facilities across the Parlor City.

Julia Fiato and Quentin Ochs both have been hired by the district. "It's kind of surreal I don't know if it has hit me, and it might not hit me until my kids walk into my classroom," said Fiato, whose mother teaches in the district and her grandmother, taught for Binghamton as well.

But it's a different story for Quentin Ochs.

"I actually came back to teaching after working in corporate for a few years and it's been just a great decision for me," said Ochs.

Julia grew up in Binghamton. And you could say her family has a history of teaching within the district.

"I think it was in my blood," said Fiato.

Quentin on the other hand is not a local.

"My wife actually is the reason I came up here. We were both living in Long Island a couple years ago and she had the opportunity to come up here. It's a great area to have the opportunity to come up and make a difference," said Ochs.

These two are not alone. Teachers with all kinds of backgrounds explored the city to check out their new school district, looking to create relationships that will help them become successful.

"It's fun getting to know the people and go in with an idea of who you're going to be working with and just what supports you can kind of start building before the school year starts," continued Ochs.

Binghamton's first day of classes is Wednesday, September 4.
