BUFFALO, N.Y. — A musical all about Bills Mafia and their love for quarterback Josh Allen debuts Thursday.
“I am a very enthusiastic Josh Allen fan,” said Colleen Pine, an actor in the musical.
That love manifested itself in “Seventeen: The (Unofficial) Josh Allen Musical.”
It’s one of seven shorts that make up the Buffalo Quickies at the Alleyway Theatre.
This piece is the brainchild of Amy Jakiel and Philip Farugia.
“It's really just the love affair that people in this town have with him and with the Bills in general,” said Farugia, one of the musical’s co-writers.
It started as a song Phillip sang to his music class at West Seneca East High School: "I want to play Madden with Josh Allen."
His wife Amy then helped flesh it out.
“Two average Joes that are playing video games online against each other and just have this ‘aha’ moment of, ‘wouldn't it be amazing if we were playing this game with Josh Allen,’” explained Jakiel, the other musical co-writer.
One of the people bringing the script to life is Colleen Pine.
“It's as silly and as crazy and over the top as the Bills mafia is, so I think it's a perfect show for Buffalo and it shows our love for the sport and also Josh Allen,” said Pine.
The musical has three songs, that will probably live in your head rent-free for days.
“I've been told that my song is very catchy,” said Pine. “All of the cast likes to complain that they wake up singing it every morning.”
“Every morning,” confirmed her fellow castmate Joey Bucheker.
It’s a fun script that might get your own gears turning.
“I could see Josh Allen totally doing this,” said Bucheker. “I could see him on Twitch. I could see him playing video games. I could see him playing with the fans. You know, he's relatable!”
Meeting Josh Allen, either in person or online, is probably something Bills Mafia can relate to, but wouldn’t it be great if number 17 himself actually showed up.
“Absolutely no pressure, you know, Josh if you're watching, but I mean, if you need tickets, let me know,” said Farugia.
As for if these fictional characters get to meet the man, the myth, the legend himself — you’ll have to show up to find out.
Seventeen and the rest of the Buffalo Quickies run Thursday through Saturday nights, until March 19.
