The Binghamton School District plans to continue virtual learning until at least Monday, October 26.
Administrators said Thursday evening that will line up with Governor Andrew Cuomo's new "yellow zone" order in Broome County.
As a yellow zone, the state does not require schools to close, but it does require schools to participate in COVID-19 testing of employees and students who are present for in-person instruction.
The designation came after hundreds of new COVID-19 cases in the last two weeks.
Administrators are also awaiting guidance from the state for required COVID-19 testing plans in yellow zone areas.
They are hoping to work with the county on that next week.
