Binghamton joins a growing list of school districts in upstate New York that will delay in-person learning, announcing a delay until at October 5, district officials announced in a statement released Wednesday morning.
The first day of student instruction will be September 14, with remote learning for all students.
"The district has determined that delaying in-person, hybrid instruction until Monday, Oct. 5 is in the best interest of the health and safety of our students, their families and our employees," the statement reads.
The district cited the unknown impact on the community with the return of Binghamton University students, with many coming from around the state and country; an "influx" of new students to the district; and to give the district more time to establish protocols with staff.
Auburn and Ithaca school districts announced similar decisions Tuesday.
