The wintry precipitation we saw across much of North Carolina this week has come to an end, but the cold temperatures will stick around through the start of the weekend.

    What You Need To Know

  • Wind chills are in the single digits in parts of North Carolina Friday morning

  • A gradual warming trend is forecast for the weekend

  • Spring-like temperatures are expected next week

We certainly are feeling that cold air Friday morning across the state. The day is starting with wind chills in the single digits in some areas and even below 0 around the higher elevations of the North Carolina mountains.

At 5 a.m., the weather station on Grandfather Mountain reported a wind chill of -20.

For locations that saw snow and ice this week, secondary roads and neighborhood streets remain icy for the Friday morning commute

Despite the cold start, parts of the state that still have snow on the ground should see a good bit of melting today thanks to all-day sunshine. High temperatures will climb above freezing except for parts of the High Country.

We're then in for another cold night and cold morning for Saturday.

If you're not a fan of the cold weather, there is better news for you ahead. A warming trend will begin this weekend that will eventually lead to spring-like temperatures for much of next week.
