Ian left behind devastation, large rain totals and power outages across the Carolinas over the weekend.
After causing widespread devastation in Florida, Ian regained strength and made a second landfall Friday near Georgetown, South Carolina as a Category 1 hurricane with winds at 85 mph and headed inland toward North Carolina.
At least 54 people were confirmed dead after Ian moved through: 47 in Florida, four in North Carolina and three in Cuba.
Gov. Roy Cooper declared a state of emergency Wednesday ahead of the storm reaching N.C.
The state is now assessing damage caused by Ian and distributing help where needed. As of Monday morning, only about 2,3000 people remained without power, down from 36,000 Sunday and 330,000 Saturday. Most of the outages reported were spread across the central portion of the state.
