Sections of Highway 12 along the Outer Banks that were recently repaired after being washed out by Hurricane Dorian could be washed out again this weekend.  A slow moving area of low pressure will batter much of the North Carolina coast with heavy rain and strong winds.

Gusts between 60 and 70mph are forecast for the Outer Banks Saturday and Saturday night.  That will likely lead to ocean over wash of Highway 12.  The highway is expected to be impassable at times.

The strong winds should lead to coastal flooding similar to the storm surge of a tropical storm or hurricane.  Flooding up to 2 to 4 feet above ground level will be possible for the ocean side of the Outer Banks and locations adjacent to the southern Pamlico Sound and Core Sound.

The storm should also produce at least three to five inches of rain for the Outer Banks, but localized amounts of six to eight inches are possible.

The rest of the North Carolina coast should see two to four inches of rain with 40 to 50mph gusts.

Locations as far inland as Raleigh and Fayetteville could see up anywhere from a half inch to inch and half of rain with gusts up to 35mph.
